Here at Sugarland, our goal is to improve the climate of the building for all who enter our doors, especially our students. PBIS has allowed us to create a culture of respect for everyone. It has also allowed us to create an environment where students are recognized for their positive actions instead of feeling that recognition is only given when misbehaving. The future of our students is certainly affected by what we as educators, parents, and administrators do to help them achieve both academic and behavioral growth. When we provide a positive school climate, support for all students and faculty, and have effective teaching, we are given the tools to succeed. Rob Horner reminds us that “schoolwide PBIS is not about controlling students; it’s about empowering them.”
